Sam Cunningham to lead Disability Sports Northern Territory

Disability Sports Northern Territory (DSNT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Cunningham as its new General Manager.
Bringing a robust background in sports and recreation and in the Northern Territory, Cunningham comes equipped with a wealth of experience crucial for this role.
For the past decade, Cunningham has worked in Australia’s sporting industry. He has been involved in multiple disability and NT programs in his last six years with the AFL. These include Alice Spring’s Footy for Life program, umpiring, and employment opportunities.
As General Manager, Cunningham plays a pivotal role in facilitating increased physical activity among Territorians with disabilities. He will be spearheading key business unit activities working towards creating more inclusive sporting opportunities for people with disabilities.
Reflecting on his new role, Cunningham expressed, "It is extremely exciting to be joining the team at Disability Sports Northern Territory. I am keen to contribute to the growth and expansion of active opportunities for Territorians with disabilities.”
Ayden Shaw, General Manager of Disability Sports Australia, conveyed his enthusiasm for Cunningham's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Sam to lead our Disability Sports Northern Territory Business Unit. His extensive local experience positions him as an ideal candidate for this role."
"We are confident that Sam's leadership will drive positive sector change, aligning with our vision of promoting active lives for Territorians with disabilities."
This announcement follows the success of the Katherine Variety Abilities Unleashed Kids program held in conjunction with School Sports Northern Territory on December 6. 50 Primary and middle school students were showcased several adaptive sports, including golf, tennis, and AFL.

“It was a great opportunity to reward the students for their efforts throughout the school year in 2023,” Cunningham stated. “There is no better way to finish the year then getting out and having a run around and seeing smiles on the faces of those involved.”

With Cunningham at the helm, DSNT looks forward to strengthening its program, collaborating and amplifying like-minded organisations, expanding regional community engagement, and creating more opportunities for Territorians with disabilities to be active.
